I've always been drawn to history and philosophy. In university I was a teaching assistant for Philosophy and Philosophy of Law. Being able to walk through the cobblestones of Athens, where great thinkers like the Socratics, the early Stoics, and Epicureans, and so many more once walked, was awe-inspiring and hard to fathom at the same time.
The Parthenon at dawn, the oracle's ruins at Delphi, monasteries clinging to rock towers at Meteora, Santorini's volcanic caldera—every place felt like standing in conversation with the past.
But I also had a chance to learn a lot about present-day Greece, their more recent history during the 19th and 20th centuries, and how it shaped their modern society.
I was a bit worried about my goat and sheep milk allergy before going, since Greek food relies heavily on it for their feta and yogurt. Thankfully, there are plenty of delicious and affordable dishes without it.
I know every trip is special in its own way, but Greece really stood out amongst my most memorable trips. It's rare to find a place that's both stunningly beautiful and so dense with meaning. I'm grateful I got to spend time there.
